ASSOCIATE UNDERWRITER

REPORTS TO: Underwriting Manager

SUMMARY: This position is responsible for underwriting duties associated with

Directions Home Loan in accordance with all banking, investor, and

Regulatory requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Core duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Review and clear Conventional, USDA, FHA, and VA underwriting conditions ensuring they comply with FNMA, FHLMC, Investor and Government agency guidelines.
  • Analyze employment profile, credit worthiness, asset documentation and other pertinent information.
  • Analyze property characteristics and all other information pertinent to property decision.
  • Review specific underwriting conditions and complete a Clear to Close (CTC)
  • Provide prompt and quality customer service internally and externally.
  • Communicate with Underwriters on specific loan file conditions and complete them accordingly.
  • Maintain quality and production standards.
  • Adhere to Underwriting turn time standards.
  • Review and clear post purchase Underwriting conditions in effort to meet loan purchase deadlines.
  • Communicate with post-closing employees to streamline clearing of post purchase conditions.
  • Collaborate directly with Underwriters, Closers, or Branch level employees to obtain and provide post purchase conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with Underwriting standards.
  • Maintain knowledge and training on all Conventional, Government, and Non-QM mortgage products and guidelines.
  • Complete continuous training on Conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA programs and work to obtain underwriting credentials.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s degree in business, banking, or finance
  • 2-5 years of processing and/or underwriting experience in the mortgage industry
  • Proficiency in Conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA loans
  • Experience with TSACH, TDHCA, DPA Programs, and Non-QM programs a plus
  • Basic understanding of underwriting requirements, both agency and government
  • Basic understanding of underwriting terminology
  • Basic understanding of automated systems. Experience with Encompass a plus
  • Computer proficiency
  • Current Underwriting credential a plus (DE or LAPP, etc.)
  • DE, CHUMS, VA/SAR
